Arizona dust storms trend during monsoon conditions and periods of very low visibility.
The National Weather Service warns that a wall of dust can reduce visibility to near zero within seconds. The greatest danger is for drivers.
Do not try to drive through the dust
If dust is approaching, avoid entering it. If you are already on the road, pull off the pavement as soon as you safely can. Never stop in a travel lane: drivers behind may be unable to see you.
Once stopped, avoid becoming a target
After parking far from the road, put the vehicle in park, set the brake and turn off lights. Lights can lead another driver to follow them and hit your vehicle. Keep your foot off the brake pedal.
