A message asking you to make a quick payment outside your booking platform deserves a careful check before you do anything. It is not automatically a scam, but it is a common route for criminals seeking payment or card details.
First step: do not use the message link
Open the official app or website yourself. Check whether the message appears in the platform’s internal inbox and whether the property, amount and conditions all match. A convincing email or text can still lead to a fake page.
Warning signs
- A very short deadline or a threat to cancel immediately.
- A request for a transfer, card details or ID on an external website.
- An unfamiliar web address or a misspelt service name.
- A sudden change in payee or amount.
If you already clicked
Do not enter more details. Contact the platform through its official channels, report the message and contact your bank promptly if you shared financial information. France’s consumer guidance advises using established channels and checking the transaction carefully.
